Franklin John are proud to announce their support of the IGD’s Feeding Britain’s Future 2013 programme. Feeding Britain’s Future is an IGD lead initiative to help address unemployment among those aged 16-24. The grocery industry provides one in seven jobs in the UK and as such has a responsibility to help get young people into work. Suppliers and retailers across the UK are offering placement and skills workshops across the month of September and collectively offering over 20,000 opportunities to unemployed young people. The aim is to share advice and experience to help these people secure jobs whilst opening their eyes to the opportunities the grocery industry has to offer.
Whilst only a small company, Franklin John wanted to contribute and Emily decided to use her experience in recruiting at Procter & Gamble to run a workshop on CV writing skills. Emily spent last Thursday at Jobcentre Plus in Leeds city centre where she ran three, one and a half hour workshops, each for 10 people. The agenda covered CV must haves, how to make the most of your experience, what skills employers are looking for and top tips for presentation and style.
The feedback from the participants was very strong with 100% reporting that it was good use of their time, 100% rating the sessions as ‘Good’ or ‘Excellent’ and 100% felt they would now be more confident in applying for a job having attended the workshop.
Franklin John found this a very rewarding experience and hopes to be able to extend their involvement much further next year, potentially being able to offer basic spread sheet, email and word processing training.
